We are the community of practice for reef restoration.

We serve corals and the people that depend on them most closely.

Our primary audience is restoration practitioners in reef-rich, low-income nations.

We do not advocate for one single method of restoration - but a better toolbox, shared resources, and a good planning framework.

We bring together practitioners, scientists, managers, and community members. Through the CRC's Working Groups, we elevate the practice of coral restoration. As experts in their topical areas, each Working Group meets and produces guidance, papers, webinars, and methods to connect and push the field of coral restoration forward.

Driven by scientific research that examines the regional impacts of climate change on Malaysia’s coral reefs and the application of cutting-edge techniques to enhance coral reef restoration scale and success, Coralku (@coralkuconservation) is fighting for a future under climate change.

In 2024, Coralku completed the construction of Malaysia’s largest coral nursery site off Pulau Lang Tengah. This underwater sanctuary will house over 2000 heat‑tolerant coral fragments, boosting reef restoration amid escalating climate stress.

These nurseries represent a leap forward in restoration capacity, building hope for our reefs, one coral at a time.

We are delighted to invite you to an upcoming #ForCoral webinar to present the outcomes of the new Coral Reef Restoration Regulatory Guidance, developed by UNEP-WCMC (@unepwcmc), Coral Restoration Consortium (@coralrestorationconsortium), and Marine Ecosystem Restoration Research and Consulting (MER) in collaboration with International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), and supported by the ICRI Ad Hoc Committee on Reef Restoration.

Remember when we turned coral scientists into Broadway stars at Reef Futures 2024?

What started as nervous laughter and “wait, we’re doing WHAT?” turned into one of the most memorable moments of the symposium. Twenty brave souls stepped WAY outside their comfort zones to perform “One Reef More” (yes, like Les Mis, but make it coral 🎵).

From “The Ocean” to “Zooxanthellae” singing about rising temperatures, this Creative Communications workshop proved something powerful: when we get vulnerable together, we build deeper connections. And those connections? They’re what will save our reefs.

That’s the Reef Futures spirit right there. 💙

Science is serious work, but the community that drives it forward? That’s built through moments like these—where we laugh, support each other, and create memories that last way longer than any PowerPoint presentation.

Huge thanks to Nathan Cook (@nathancookeco), Scott Heron, and Kailash Cook (@kai.lash_co.ok) for orchestrating this beautiful moment, and to every person who sang their heart out for the reefs.
