🚨New Guidance #ForCoral - Strengthening Coral Reef Restoration Regulatory Frameworks

Scaling up coral reef restoration depends on more than science and innovation—it requires the policy frameworks that enable it.

We’re excited to share new guidance supporting governments in coral reef countries to strengthen regulatory frameworks for restoration, developed by an incredible all-female working group.

The guidance provides a structured three-step approach to help governments assess and improve the regulatory environment for coral reef restoration:

This practical roadmap helps align national regulations with international commitments. Coherent and adaptive regulatory systems deliver long-term ecological, social, and economic benefits for reefs and the communities that depend on them.

Across the CRC network, Regional Groups have been growing rapidly, reflecting increased interest, participation, and momentum. With this growth comes new opportunities: deeper peer-to-peer learning, stronger regional identity, greater inclusivity, and more effective sharing of tools and knowledge.

We are currently looking for TWO Regional Group Coordinators,
-One to be based in the Pacific Islands, AND
-One to be based in the Caribbean/Latin American region.

Regional Coordinators will help cultivate the practice of restoration within each region, weaving together coral restoration projects by various practitioners, supporting practitioners at all stages, and ensuring that the regions’ collective strengths are fully realized.

More than 570 people participated in the mentored version in October 2025, and now you can enroll in the self-paced version. 99% of the mentored course participants who finished the course would recommend it to a colleague!  This course is designed for coral reef managers, researchers, and practitioners who want to learn about how coral reef restoration can be used to support effective coral reef management and conservation. The lessons can be taken at your own pace in English, French, Spanish, and Arabic.

Driven by scientific research that examines the regional impacts of climate change on Malaysia’s coral reefs and the application of cutting-edge techniques to enhance coral reef restoration scale and success, Coralku (@coralkuconservation) is fighting for a future under climate change.

In 2024, Coralku completed the construction of Malaysia’s largest coral nursery site off Pulau Lang Tengah. This underwater sanctuary will house over 2000 heat‑tolerant coral fragments, boosting reef restoration amid escalating climate stress.

These nurseries represent a leap forward in restoration capacity, building hope for our reefs, one coral at a time.
